Members share early results from low-emission long-haul trials

Sustainability · September 12, 2026

Several member fleets have completed the first phase of long-haul trials using lower-emission tractors, and they are sharing what they learned.

What was tested

Fleets ran natural gas, hybrid and battery-electric tractors on regular routes, alongside conventional diesel trucks, tracking fuel use, uptime and driver feedback.

“The technology is improving fast. The infrastructure needs to keep pace so every fleet can take part.”

Early findings

Fuel and energy savings were strongest on predictable regional routes. Long-haul operations still face gaps in charging and fuelling infrastructure, which limits where new technology can be used today.

What comes next

We are using the findings to advocate for investment in highway charging and fuelling corridors, and for incentives that help small and mid-sized fleets make the switch.
